As subjective as aesthetics may be, there is also simply a point when
lazy presentation translates into poor revenue. Whether the object
of discussion is a printed page, a dvd or a web site; clean, handsome,
well thought-out design is one of the easiest ways to add value to
a product.
The bulk of my work in recent years has been on Web
sites; from big, database-driven, template-based sites
and e-commerce sites, all the way down to small sites tailored exclusively
to small businesses and individuals. On these sites I have been everything
from webmaster to producer, to designer, information architect and
occasional programmer.
Working in the home video industry in New York, I became familiar
with many aspects of Packaging
design, and was responsible as Art Director or Designer for the creation
of over forty video box packages and sales campaigns for the U.S.
video market. This experience also made me intimately acquainted with
many of the complexities of producing designs headed to Print
on four-colour presses, enabling me to also work on designs for magazines,
advertisements and brochures.
My writing, and ongoing interest in stories has attracted me to the
possibilities of Multimedia,
so along the way I have also dabbled in Hypercard, then Shockwave,
Flash and Director to produce small games and animated intros to web
sites.
